Gratitude? In High School?!?

Scott's English teacher had the students draw posters about a word of their choice.  Scott's word was "satiric", which isn't really important to the story but gives an example of a word.  The teacher hung the ones that were visually appealing out in the hall.

One of the posters was for the word "condescending" and showed a mother reading a book to a child.  I don't like the sentiment of that poster, but apparently it was very well done, which was why it was one of the ones hung in the hallway.

Today Scott heard some of his friends talking very loudly in the hallway.  They called him over and showed him something on the poster.  Apparently if you looked very closely, you could read part of the cover of the book.  It was "The Book of Mor___".  Scott's friends know he's Mormon, and they were appalled on his behalf.  Their loudness brought the teacher out of the room.  When they pointed the words out to the teacher, she removed the book from the hallway.

I'm grateful that Scott has been open with his friends about his beliefs.  I'm grateful they realize how important what he believes is to him, and they respect him for those beliefs. I'm grateful his teacher listened to them and took appropriate action.

When I got home tonight, Scott was making thank you cards for his friends and writing a thank you note to his teacher.

Sometimes good things even happen in high school!

Way to go, Scott! He's such a great kid. Are you guys really going to move and take him away??

I am unbelievably impressed. What an example Scott is to his friends and a much needed light to his school. As a mother, I'm sure you are feeling grateful for such wonderful friends for your son. And Scott making thank you cards without a word from you? Well, that just shows that boy has had some good raisin'.

p.s. What's this moving business?

#1 - Scott is going to heaven. So are his incredible parents.

#2 - That lady is an idiot to the nth degree. She either isn't even looking at this crap while she grades it (totally believable since she had those kids write six pages) or she is inconsiderate. Or prejudice. Or a hater. Or "yeah you can't pray in school or anything else religious. Oh, except bash on other religions." Idiot, I say. I can't believe you haven't gone up there and reamed those folks.

#3 - Moving? What? Huh? You got some 'splainin' to do.

congrats to scott and his friends. and for the teacher for doing the right thing. scott's the bomb for being an example of the believers.

Okay, here's the moving details. Robert got a job. He will be on a 5 year project in Abu Dhabi. He is leaving in a little over a week. Scott and I will move over there in August. We will stay one year or two, depending on how Scott likes the school. Then he and I will come back so he can get ready to go to college or on a mission or whatever. After that, I will probably be like Lori until Robert comes home - going over there to visit. Kimberly will be living in our house so we can move back into the ward when we come home. It will be a long commute, but she can save some serious money, so that will be good. And that's my moving tale.

I should clarify that whole college or mission or whatever comment. Scott is definitely planning on going on a mission. His birthday is October 29th so he's trying to decide if he should go to college for one semester, or just stay home and work so he can go out right after he turns 19. I don't even know why I included "whatever", so just ignore it!

Congrats on Robert's new job--What an exciting adventure for your family! I'm SO glad you will be keeping your home so you can move back into the ward.

Good for Scott!

Waited to post after I got the scoop. Have fun on your adventure. They are exhausting - but also exciting, new, interesting, educational, etc so the exhausting is cancelled out!

You will be missed - but it is nice we can keep track of you via Kimberly and your blog!
